The Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress. King Kashyapa built it. The Sigirya was famous because of the frescoes in it. The foreign tourists who come to Sri Lanka never forget to visit Sigiriya. Sigiriya is a place of archaeological and historical value.

We can see graffiti or verses on the mirror wall. The ancient visitors wrote these verses. These verses help us learn about the evolution and the development of our language. There are nearly seven hundred such verses on the mirror wall. However, King Kashyapa was regarded as a patricide.

He was a lover of art. That is why he had created such a beautiful fortress with attractive paintings of beautiful ladies. We have to climb up the rock along with a flight of steps through the large curved lion. That is why it is called “Sinha giri”. Sigiriya is six hundred ft in height. Sigiriya is regarded as the 8th wonder in the world.
